Compare two Excel files
Spot changed cells and added or deleted rows, by position or by key.

In short
This tool compares two versions of a table, in Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb), OpenDocument (.ods) or CSV, and shows the changed cells with their previous value, as well as the added or deleted rows. It compares one sheet from each file, row by row or by key column: an identifier or a reference finds each row even if the order has changed. If a key appears several times, only its first occurrence is compared. It is the values that are compared, not the formulas or the formatting. The differences can be exported to an Excel workbook, one row per change, with a summary. For two PDFs, use “Compare two PDFs”. The comparison happens in your browser.
How it works
- Drop the two workbooks (Excel, OpenDocument or CSV).
- Choose to compare by position or by a key column (an identifier, a reference).
- Review the changed cells and the added or deleted rows.
Frequently asked questions
When should I compare by key column?
When the rows may have been sorted or inserted differently: each row is matched by its identifier, wherever it is.
Are formulas compared?
It is the displayed values that are compared.
Can I export the differences?
Yes: download the differences as an Excel workbook, one row per change.
Are my files sent to a server?
No. Everything is processed in your browser, on your device: no file is sent anywhere, neither to ElniDocs nor to anyone else. You can check this by going offline once the page has loaded: the tool keeps working.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no sign-up, no adverts and no watermark added to your files. The only limit is your device's memory (up to 500 MB per file).
