In short

This tool makes JPG, PNG or WebP images lighter, several at a time, so you can send them by email, publish them on a website or save space. Three levels are offered: light keeps the original size and leaves PNGs as PNGs, with no loss; recommended limits the longest side to 2560 px; strong limits it to 1600 px. At these two levels, a PNG becomes a JPG, or a WebP if it contains transparency. An image that recompression does not make lighter is kept as it is, minus its metadata. Camera data and GPS location are always removed. Images over 100 megapixels are refused. Several images are delivered in a ZIP. The compression happens on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller do the images get?

Often half the size or less for photos, with no visible difference on screen; it depends on the original image.

Can an image that is already light get bigger?

No: it is flagged as already optimised; in that case, try a stronger level.

Is the GPS data in photos kept?

No: the metadata is removed from the compressed image.

Are my files sent to a server?

No. Everything is processed in your browser, on your device: no file is sent anywhere, neither to ElniDocs nor to anyone else. You can check this by going offline once the page has loaded: the tool keeps working.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no sign-up, no adverts and no watermark added to your files. The only limit is your device's memory (up to 500 MB per file).
