In short

This tool converts a spreadsheet to CSV, to import it into accounting software, a database or an email marketing tool, and does the reverse: a CSV becomes an Excel (.xlsx) or OpenDocument (.ods) workbook. It reads .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb, .ods and .csv files. Choose the sheet on screen or all the sheets, each one giving a CSV, bundled in a ZIP, as well as the separator: semicolon by default, comma or tab. The CSV, encoded in UTF-8, contains only values: the results of the formulas, without formatting. An option, ticked by default, neutralises cells that could run as formulas when the file is opened. The conversion happens in your browser.

How it works

Drop an Excel (.xlsx), OpenDocument (.ods) or CSV file.
Choose the sheet or sheets and the separator (semicolon by default, which is what Excel expects in Belgium and France).
Download the CSV, or the Excel workbook if you started from a CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Are formulas exported?

A CSV contains only values: it is the results of the formulas that are exported.

Do accented characters display correctly?

Yes: the CSV is written in UTF-8, which Excel and other software recognise.

What about a workbook with several sheets?

Choose the sheets to convert: each one gives its own CSV file.

Are my files sent to a server?

No. Everything is processed in your browser, on your device: no file is sent anywhere, neither to ElniDocs nor to anyone else. You can check this by going offline once the page has loaded: the tool keeps working.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no sign-up, no adverts and no watermark added to your files. The only limit is your device's memory (up to 500 MB per file).
