Create or extract a ZIP

Gather files into a ZIP archive, with or without a password, or open a protected archive.

Processed on your device, nothing uploaded

In short

This tool creates a ZIP archive from files or folders, and opens the ZIP archives you receive. When creating one, folders keep their structure, compression can be turned off for photos or videos, and a password can protect the archive with AES-256, an encryption that 7-Zip, WinRAR and WinZip can read, but not Windows File Explorer or the Mac's Archive Utility. When opening one, it lists the contents, extracts one file or all of them, accepts archives encrypted with AES or with the old ZIP encryption, and can remove the password. It does not read 7z or RAR files, multi-volume archives or ZIP64 archives (over 4 GB). Everything happens in your browser.

How it works

Drop files to create an archive, or a ZIP archive to open it.
Add a password if you wish.
Download the archive, or the extracted files.

Frequently asked questions

Do protected archives open in other software?

Yes: the AES-256 encryption used can be read by 7-Zip, WinRAR and WinZip.

Can I open a protected archive I have received?

Yes, with its password, whether it is encrypted with AES or with the old ZIP encryption.

Is a booby-trapped archive dangerous?

Sizes are checked during extraction (no “ZIP bomb”), and file paths are sanitised.

Are my files sent to a server?

No. Everything is processed in your browser, on your device: no file is sent anywhere, neither to ElniDocs nor to anyone else. You can check this by going offline once the page has loaded: the tool keeps working.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no sign-up, no adverts and no watermark added to your files. The only limit is your device's memory (up to 500 MB per file).
